WHERE: FRENCH MAN-OF-WAR

The large "man-of-war" ships were used to fight in the sea battles of the American Revolutionary War.

One of the most famous is the Bonhomme Richard, which Captain John Paul Jones sailed against the British man-of-war, HMS Serapis.

Did you know? Ships are often referred to by "she" and "her" because the sailors, most of whom where men, spent so much time on the boats that it was joked that they were married to them.
