JAMES ARMISTEAD

HISTORICAL CONTENT
Virginia slave James Armistead joins Lafayette and spies on Benedict Arnold (3/81). Then, working as a double agent, Armistead provides false information to British General Cornwallis (7/81). With news that de Grasse's French fleet is headed for Chesapeake Bay, Washington abandons plans to attack New York (8/14/81). His Excellency resolves to move his troops to Virginia to join with the French fleet and trap Cornwallis in Yorktown.
